Balenciaga apologizes for creepy photoshoot with sexualized teddy bears and child pornography court document

Luxury fashion company Balenciaga on Tuesday issued an apology for its recent advertising campaign, which used sexualizing images of children as they posed with teddy bears wearing bondage uniforms.

One of the images included a United States Supreme Court case, United States vs. Williams, which criminalizes child pornography. The party shown in the image cites another Supreme Court case, Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalitionwho made virtual child pornography a protected discourse.

The company has been accused of “normalizing child pornography” by many.

“They’re trying to get attention by incorporating a child pornography case before the Supreme Court as a front,” National Center on Sexual Exploitation general counsel Benjamin Bull said. “He associates child pornography with their product.”

The company faced significant backlash, leading it to take down the photos and issue an apology. They have also taken legal action “against the parties responsible for creating the set”.

“We apologize for posting disturbing materials in our campaign,” the company said on Instagram.

The company says some of the items displayed in the photos were “unapproved” and that they “strongly condemn child abuse in any form”.

“We stand up for the safety and well-being of children,” they continued. “We sincerely apologize for any offense our holiday campaign may have caused. Our plush bear bags should not have been featured with children in this campaign. »

“It’s not about being provocative and getting attention,” Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America, told Fox News. “The whole campaign sexualizes children, period. It’s child exploitation, period. And that feeds and normalizes a dark and depraved culture.

Nicole Kidman features in Balenciaga’s Spring 2023 collection, while Kim Kardashian and Bella Hadid served as brand ambassadors.
