At least one dead after car crash at Apple store in Hingham, Massachusetts
Shortly before 11 a.m. Monday, a car crashed into an Apple store in the Boston suburb of Hingham, killing one person while more than a dozen were injured.
The 19 injured were taken to hospital by ambulance after the black SUV smashed the front window and drove through the store, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said at a press conference.
Mr. Cruz said the driver was a man who was in the presence of police after the accident. He added that he was unable to say at this time whether charges would be brought, but that there was an “active criminal investigation underway”.
Hingham Fire Chief Steve Murphy said several people were pinned against the door at the back of the store. He added that the structural integrity of the building was being assessed but was not of concern at the time of the press conference.
Mr Cruz said several 911 calls came from Derby Street shops around 10.45am.
“A dark-colored SUV appears, passes at an undetermined speed, through a glass window and hits several people,” Mr. Cruz told reporters.
