Zoom has released the results of its survey of how we all used the video conferencing service in 2022.
The company found that the middle of the week was the preferred time to use Zoom, with Tuesday being the most popular day for meetings and Wednesday for team chats and webinars. To no one’s surprise, Friday was the quietest day of the week.
January and October have been the busiest months this year, with January 19 being the busiest day for Zoom meetings, and October 18 for Zoom Phone – the company’s VoIP service – and its networking platform. Advanced Conference Rooms.
The average Zoom meeting had seven participants and lasted just under an hour at 52 minutes. Both figures are down slightly from last year (ten participants and 54 minutes). Just under half of all meetings in 2022 also used screen sharing.
As for its other services, Rooms was again used most often on Tuesday, and since November 2021, its usage has increased monthly by an average of 6.5%. Zoom believes this is due to the gradual return of some staff to the office, with rooms designed for hybrid working arrangements.
Zoom Phone usage grew by one million in 2022, with four million licenses now sold. Again, Wednesday was the most popular day to make calls.
Webinars were most often scheduled on February 24 this year, and somewhat surprisingly, Sundays were 32% busier than Saturdays for them to take place.
The end of October has been a busy time for Zoom Events, with the 24th and 27th being the most popular time of the year, peaking on October 26th.
In a survey of just under 3,000 users, the most common pet peeve (34%) was a discussion, followed by a last-minute question at the end of a meeting (28%). The third was eating without the bran (24%).
Zoom also found some interesting differences in preferences based on respondents’ age. When asked about their least favorite work phrases, Gen Z chooses “I ping you” and “take that offline,” while “synergy” was lamented by millennials and Gen Xers. Boomers, on the other hand, didn’t like the classic aphorism “think outside the box”.
Boomers also hated emojis the most (25%), as well as Gifs (36%). Millennials, on the other hand, loved them the most, with nearly half approving of their use.
When it comes to preferred means of communication, Gen Z prefers team chat (36%), but also prefers using video, although 63% say they turn off their camera when attending meetings.
More than half of Millennials prefer chat and dislike receiving phone calls. Gen Xers and Boomers preferred email, but the former still used team chat and video calls, and the latter were the most likely to make phone calls.
