How to use Wordle Bot

  • Wordle Bot is an official tool that compares your Wordle guesses to the best possible guesses.
  • Wordle Bot also compares your guesses to what other players have guessed.
  • You can only use Wordle Bot if you are a paying subscriber of The New York Times.

There are few trends that have gained momentum in 2022 than Wordle, the daily puzzle game that challenges players to guess a hidden five-letter word. Even after The New York Times bought the game, it still racks up hundreds of thousands of users every day.

And while The New York Times hasn’t changed the way the game is played, they have added an additional bonus for subscribers called Wordle Bot.

Wordle Bot tells you how good your guesses are

Wordle Bot is an AI created by The New York Times that analyzes your Wordle guesses and compares them to what the absolute perfect guesses were. It is designed to play the best possible game of Wordle every day.

Wordle Bot has analyzed all Wordle solutions so far and knows approximately what kind of words the game tends to choose as an answer. So every day it uses that knowledge to calculate which are the best guesses – in other words, which guesses get you the right answer the fastest.

It does this by looking at which guesses eliminate the most possible answers. Most days, by the time it reaches the third guess, Wordle Bot will have eliminated all incorrect answers.

But the game doesn’t do all this just to taunt you. If you’re logged into your New York Times account – you must also be a paid subscriber – Wordle Bot will compare your daily Wordle guesses to its own and other human players. With each guess you make, it will tell you how effective that guess was at eliminating possible answers.

This lets you see how well you performed against the “perfect” player, can teach you which sorts of guesses are better than others, and give you new ideas for starting words.

You will sometimes find that Wordle Bot claims that there is only one solution left, even though there are more English words that match what you know so far. Indeed, Wordle Bot does not consider every five-letter word as a valid solution – it only considers the 4,500 five-letter words that have appeared most frequently in The New York Times since 2010.

This does not mean that the Wordle solution has be one of those 4,500 words. It’s just extremely likely.
