As sci-fi fans who love our furry friends, we can all agree that there needs to be more dogs included in our favorite franchises. With the exception of Cosmo the Wonderdog and “Spaceballs” Barf, there is an unacceptable void when it comes to a diversity of cosmic-sniffing dogs in the universe.

“The dog of war (opens in a new tab)seeks to conjure up a “lost episode” set in the canonical timeline of the original “Deep Space Nine” show which first aired on January 3, 1993 and ran for seven seasons.
Check out the official project synopsis:
“In the new miniseries, an extremely rare purebred corgi from Earth makes its way aboard Deep Space 9 when Quark strikes a deal to procure it for a potential buyer. After all, a profitless Ferengi is not Not a Ferengi at all! But the corgi named Latinum comes with an unexpected shipment that shakes Captain Benjamin Sisko to the core: a Borg component discovered by a crew sent to discover Cardassian technology after the station was reoccupied.”
“‘You mean the greatest TV show ever?'” Chen said in an official statement when asked about his fondness for “DS9.” “I’m absolutely thrilled to be spending time with the ‘DS9’ team, and I hope this story touches on all the characters and intensity that made the series so powerful and awesome: Sisko’s Story featuring the Borg, the Dominion War, Garak’s Big Story outfits, Jadzia being Jadzia, the holosuite adventures of Miles and Julian, and much more. Plus, Quark gets a dog. If that doesn’t get you your latinum, I don’t know what will!”
For ‘Star Trek’ editor Heather Antos, ‘Deep Space Nine’ represents the defining ‘Star Trek’ show for an entire generation of fans, and with the return to ’90s fashion, the moment is totally came.
“So to be able to tell an additional episode in comic book form for the show’s 30th anniversary is very special,” Antos says in IDW’s press release. “Mike Chen’s passion for the crew of this famous space station is unparalleled, and no one knows the visual world of ‘Star Trek’ quite like Angel Hernandez. Plus…who wouldn’t want dogs in ‘Star Trek?’ “”
