KEY POINTS

  • Manchester United and Liverpool have been named as teams likely to acquire Moises Caicedo
  • Brighton’s asking price is set at $98.5m for them to agree to deal with the midfielder
  • Two other clubs could also join Manchester United and Liverpool in the pursuit of Caicedo

Several teams are expected to join the race for the services of Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion.

According to the Mirror, the Seagulls could be ready to cash in on Caicedo, although it would take £85m ($98.5m) for them to agree a deal.

Among the teams linked with the 20-year-old midfielder are Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United.

After signing for just £4m ($4.64m), Caicedo has performed well for Brighton this season.

Joining hands with Alexis Mac Allister, the efforts of the two middle players saw the Seagulls climb to eighth place.

While it makes sense to move him away from Falmer Stadium, the high fee Brighton are demanding could be a problem.

On the Reds side, one player they may have to move is Jude Bellingham.

As for the Red Devils, it will be recalled that they tried to make a run at Caicedo in January 2021.

However, that all got bogged down with Manchester United pulling out a month before the January transfer window, allowing the Seagulls to step into the midfield.

As for Newcastle, the Magpies considered Caicedo as an alternative to Youri Tielemans, someone whose contract with Leicester City is due to expire next summer.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been linked with a possible move to Arsenal, especially now that interest from Juventus has reportedly cooled.

If it’s not the three teams, Chelsea could also be in the game.

If that happened, Caicedo would reunite with Blues manager Graham Potter.

This development comes months after the Ecuadorian footballer mentioned he was happy with the Seagulls.

“I’m very happy here at Brighton,” he said. “I can’t think of any club other than Brighton. This is the club where I am now and I will give everything for this club and to continue to do well here.”
