MultiVersus director Tony Huynh seems to be teasing that a character that uses a grappling hook will soon be added to the game, with some suggesting it could be Robin, Catwoman, or even Mabel from Gravity Falls.
Aside from recent leaks for characters like the Joker, Beetlejuice, and the Wicked Witch of the West, it’s been a while since we’ve had a legitimate tease for a MultiVersus character. Luckily, the wait seems to be over as game director Tony Huynh has shared a vague tweet that seems to give us a small hint as to what’s to come.
Earlier today, Huynh tweeted randomly, “Swinging grappling hooks”. It might seem innocuous, but it’s taken as a clue by the MultiVersus community, as Huynh’s previous tweets have also hinted at characters, like one earlier in the year that mentioned flying before Black Adam’s reveal.
The first character that comes to mind here is Batman, but he’s already in the game, which rules him out. In this case, the most likely next characters are Robin or Nightwing, as they’re both popular choices that would obviously be close to Batman, but also have their own unique moves that would set them apart from just being a Batman clone. Red Hood’s Batgirl and Batfamily allies like Catwoman would also be viable for similar reasons.
Speaking of the Batfamily, a clever suggestion is that the tease is actually for the Joker, who might end up using Batman’s grappling hook as a twist on his move, probably as a form of parody. We pretty much know for a fact that the Joker will be in the game soon, and his Batman parody would suit his joking personality.
Some of the other suggestions the community has made so far include Sloth from the Goonies (who could use pirate or caving gear), Scorpion from Mortal Kombat (whose spear could double as a grappling hook), and even Kyle Crane from Dying Light. . Hope it’s not the last, huh?
One of the more obvious suggestions is that it could be Mabel from Gravity Falls, who is known to want a grappling hook in the series and uses it multiple times. That in itself might seem like a vague wish (many characters use grappling hooks after all), but it’s worth noting that a recent MultiVersus match for the Westeros scene was made to look like postcards from Gravity Falls, which could be taken as an index. My beauty.
Outside of the character suggestions, it’s also possible this teases some kind of revamp of Batman’s moveset, as he’s currently using a grappling hook as a special side, but can’t deviate from it. The grappling hook movement has had some issues in the past, so it seems quite likely. It’s also possible that it’s not a tease at all and that we’re reading way too much, but that’s part of the fun.
