The most Instagram-worthy spot in New York City is the Magic Hour Rooftop Bar and Lounge at Pink Winter Lodge in Moxy Times Square, perched 18 stories above the city and designed to look like a winter wonderland in a cabin. ski. Visitors are mesmerized by frosted white fir trees and hanging icy garlands, glowing lights draped in white tree branches, and hanging white amaranths creating an icicle effect. Most spellbinding is an ornate, shimmering work carousel of 25,000 rhinestones threaded into hanging snowy branches.
There are no ancient horses to ride. You hop on a seat for two, designed to replicate a ski gondola, lean back against plush white pillows and enjoy the spinning ride surrounded by white fir trees and under snow-covered branches. Don’t worry about melting snow – it’s just looks real. As the carousel spins, you not only enjoy the dazzling winter wonderland, but the carousel spins to face windows that overlook New York’s skyscrapers, including the Empire State Building.
The must-see location, created in collaboration with Design House Décor, primarily attracts Gen Xers and Gen Zs. Dressed in their sparkling finery, they rush to pose in every possible position on the slowly rotating carousel while their friends film them in all Angles. There is another Instagram-worthy room a few meters from the main room which also includes a bar and tables; but its biggest attraction is a lacy white bench draped in white magic and perfect for selfies.
A winter-themed cocktail menu curated by Beverage Director Nikki McCutcheon includes decadent alcoholic offerings such as the signature APRÈS SKI: Pink Hot Chocolate New Amsterdam Vodka, White Chocolate Liqueur and Mini Marshmallows.
I chose the MOIRA ROSE: Dorothy Parker Rose Petal Gin, Raspberry Tea and Lemon, Prosecco, which the waitress poured into the raspberry, frozen piece of delicious sorbet.
My friend had an MR. ROSE: Dos Hombres Mezcal, pomegranate liqueur, agave and lime. In addition to other winter specialties, they have beer, wine, champagne and spirits. Another tantalizing choice is the Double Pink Diamond: Tequila Volcan Blanco, Pomegranate Liqueur, Agave, Lime, and Blueberry Red Bull.
What to eat? Light bites to share. But remember, this is a pop-up, not a fine dining restaurant. The offerings are more dishes such as Caesar salad, fries and guacamole, burgers and pigs in a blanket. I loved the curly fries served with spicy ketchup and truffle mayonnaise – the truffle mayonnaise was killer. My other favorite was the Lioni Burrata: Heinz 57 Collection Black Truffle Infused Honey with Toasted Sourdough Bread. I’m crazy about anything with truffles.
Don’t miss the dessert:
Try make-it-yourself Pink Campfire S’Mores with pink marshmallows and glittery frosted graham crackers. There is also a snow powder donut: donuts with apple cider and spiced powdered sugar; and a Frosted Cupcake: a chocolate cupcake with chocolate filling and eggnog frosting.
I don’t know what the men’s room is like, but the women’s room has the biggest assortment of goodies I’ve ever seen: chocolate gummies, caramels, life preservers, hairspray hair and at least five different brands of hand cream.
Remember: this Winter Wonderland is a pop-up and will only be open until the end of March 2023. It is extremely romantic and just as perfect for friends as it is for visiting tourists. And if you’re looking for the perfect place to celebrate New Year’s Eve, this is it – but be sure to make reservations or you’ll never get in. Still, it doesn’t have to be New Year’s Eve. The Pink Winter Lodge is a party every day and every night. (Open Monday through Sunday for meals and weekend brunch. 485 7th Ave 18th floor, New York, NY 10018). If you have trouble finding it, just look for the crowd outside the large Magic Hour canopy.
