NIJISANJI VTuber Kotoka Torahime has apologized to fans after using an ability slur during his 100,000 subscriber stamina stream. The XSOLEIL star said she was unaware of the meaning of the word due to her cultural background.

New NIJISANJI premiere Kotoka Torahime of recent wave XSOLEIL VTuber has apologized after using an ableist slur during a recent broadcast.

The star was striving to hit 100,000 YouTube subscribers during the Dec. 29 stream when she got mad at players of her game ARK: Seriously, come on guys. Can’t you take turns getting out the door? You f**king r*tards.

The comments quickly circulated, with many expressing their disappointment at the XSOLEIL member for using the ableist slur.

She later apologized for using the language, saying she was unaware of the meaning due to her cultural background.

“I saw posts about the words I said in my previous stream,” she said. “I hope these words reach you because your words reached me. They really helped me to understand what situation I was in. It made me realize and let me know what mistake I had committed.

“If you’re in my streams a lot, sometimes I’m very oblivious to the memes. I remember I didn’t know some of the dirty puns or the Twitch words. I can speak the language, but I’m not up to date with Culture.

“It’s going to sound like I’m looking for excuses, but what I meant was that I didn’t know about it at all. I remember the word. I think I learned it from a friend, and the meaning of it is very different from what people told me on the internet yesterday.

“I want to make my stream enjoyable for everyone. I don’t want to hurt anybody’s feelings, but I think I did, and I let people down. I wish I could reach out to them, person by person, and tell them I’m sorry. But the situation wouldn’t be [made] right that way.

“I think for some people it’s a bit too late. I probably should have said this sooner, but I kind of passed out after that stamina flow. I only realized it when I woke up and checked everything.

“I hope it reaches you ⁠— the message reached me, so thank you very much for that. I will do my best not to spoil next time, if you give me a next chance.

It comes after fellow NIJISANJI EN VTuber Enna Alouette apologized for making a racist remark live. She said she made an “insensitive and ignorant comment about a certain stereotype”, and called the controversy a “wake-up call” to act more responsibly online.

“Even though I had no malicious intent or anything, it was very wrong and 100% racist,” she said, reflecting on her actions in November.

“I’ll make sure to be extra careful from now on. [about] how I think, how I act and what I say. Honestly, I have crossed the line a lot throughout my career at NIJISANJI. Honestly, that was a wake-up call, seriously.
