Ole Miss vs Mississippi State: Prediction, Pick, Spread, Odds, Live Stream, Watch Online, TV Channel

The No. 20 Ole Miss hosts Mississippi State Thursday night in a Thanksgiving showdown between two hostile rivals who always keep things entertaining. The Rebels are coming off a very disappointing 42-27 loss to Arkansas in a game that put a huge dent in their quest to make a New Year’s Bowl Six for the second straight season. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, edged past East Tennessee State 56-7 to prepare for Thursday’s battle.

It’s a game that has already seen former Rebels receiver Elijah Moore pretend to pee like a dog with four seconds left, which was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. The 15-yard penalty fended off the extra point, Luke Logan missed, and the Bulldogs held on to a 1-point victory.

Will the Egg Bowl be the perfect Thanksgiving dessert again? Let’s break down the game and make a straight and against the spread pick.

Ole Miss vs. Mississippi State: Need to Know

Will Rogers’ big scene: Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers leads the SEC in passing at 315.8 yards per game, but is 13th among qualified quarterbacks in yards per attempt (6.6). It’s common for flaggers in a Mike Leach offense, who uses short passing as a substitute for a rushing attack. However, the Ole Miss pass defense has given up 7 or more yards per attempt in six of its last seven games. It’s a perfect place for Rogers to take advantage of a pass defense that’s 90th in the nation in pass defense on passes 15 or more air yards (43.1%), and prove he can be more than just a dink-and-dunk smuggler.

Will Ole Miss pound the rock? Ole Miss has lost three of his last four games, and in two of them (No. 5 LSU and No. 7 Alabama) he has been held within 200 rushing yards. The other loss in that stretch came last week against Arkansas when the Rebels were holed 42-6 despite rushing for 463 yards and 703 yards total. It was a wacky outlier as the losses to LSU and Alabama are more indicative of the plan to beat Ole Miss. The Bulldogs’ rushing defense was all over the place. He gave up just 1.07 yards per carry at Alabama on Oct. 22, but gave up 5.57 at Auburn on his next outing two weeks later. If Ole Miss catches the Bulldogs defense on a radiator, it could be a long night in Oxford, Mississippi.

All eyes on Lane: It’s been a crazy week for Rebels coach Lane Kiffin. The third-year coach is rumored to be in play to be Auburn’s next coach – so much so that he took to Twitter on Monday night to temper reports that his departure from Ole Miss was imminent. However, he did not categorically deny his interest in the concert. Will he be distracted? Has the rumor made its way into the locker room? How will the players react? It will be interesting to watch this one considering the Auburn storyline.
