Zelda Fan creates Outset Island from Wind Waker in Far Cry 5

A prolific user of the Far Cry Arcade level editor recreates the iconic opening area from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

A creative fan of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker recreated the game’s opening area using the vast Far cry Arcade level editor included in Far Cry 5. Although not as famous at launch as other titles in its series, The Legend of Zelda: The awakening of the wind carries a strong legacy and is one of the hallmark titles of the GameCube.

The Legend of Zelda is one of the few game series to see many of its entries being celebrated as one of the greatest games of all time, with nearly every game in the series being a critical and commercial success. The awakening of the wind, released in 2003, is a partial outlier due to its divisive art style and character design that stands out from previous games and garnered an initial reaction from critics and fans. The story was sweeter with The awakening of the wind, and his art style has reappeared in many entries since. The game itself is now widely considered a highlight of the series and is still depicted in The Legend of Zelda fan art to date.

The generally discontinuous nature of The Legend of Zelda games has led to certain places in Hyrule taking on different forms. Areas like Hyrule Castle and the Temple of Time have seen many designs but remain memorable places in the spirit of Zelda Fans. Some areas have yet to make direct reappearances in other games, such as Outset Island from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. This island has been faithfully recreated by a fan of Far Cry 5the level editor, Far cry Arcade, with the island’s iconic palm trees, wooden architecture and tropical surroundings.

The user, who goes by Mojo Swoptops on YouTube, uploaded a presentation of the island to his channel, saying in the description that it took him three hours to build. This isn’t the first time they’ve recreated a fictional location in Far cry Arcade, having previously made recreations of Skyrim‘s Riverwood and Helm’s Deep from The Lord of the Rings. The Outset Island walkthrough ends with the player character kicking a chicken, a callback to his previous walkthrough of the Riverwood recreation.

Games in The Legend of Zelda often act as system vendors for Nintendo consoles. The next game in the series, Tears of the Kingdom, is one of the most anticipated games of 2023. As the series receives more and more entries, older games in the franchise will see renewed interest from new fans. As The awakening of the wind Approaching its 20th anniversary, now would be a better time than ever for Nintendo to bring the game to Switch.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker was released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2003 and remastered for the Wii U in 2013.
